i would like a laptop that i can surf the internet and do school work on, i am used to working on windows XP.Your question is in itself an oxymoron. If you want the best laptop, get a MacBook. If you want the 2nd best laptop, get a Sony.if you are in the UK (i'm not sure if you can get it any where Else) a Acer Aspire one on XP. the one i have is on XP has a 120GB hdd and 1GB RAMI think this will help you better than me.

Hp is usally good but they like to load up their pcs with crapy applications
if you can deal with that then go for hp
Compaq is good from what i hear
Other than apple i would say HPTry HP or Toshiba, ive heard that hp thou expensive last long, and toshiba is durable. If your used to working with xp you might have to ask the company to send you a downgrade to xp.
