Should i continue to lift or begin conditioning? ?

  • please beleive me i know excersises like the bench press and squat are not best way or even a good way to go about training for a sport like wrestling or MMA but i also read somewhere you should focus on getting muscle first and then conditioning it. is this the case? should i try and get stronger and thenworry about conditioning? im 160 +/- and maybe 5'9 i can bench 165/170 and dead 220+ and probly squat what i can dead i was wondering if i should have a goal to get to as far as number wise and then begin to condition with what i have or forget all that crap and just start now and the strenth will come with that

  • Are you stupid?!
Bench press and squats are the ONLY way to train if you're in Wrestling and/or MMA.
You won't fly up weightclasses if you do squats and benchpresses.
As long as you DON'T do 100 reps with heavy weights you won't become Mr.Olympia and now that said and done.
With a strength program like 5repsX5sets you will only gain strength.
Stop being a wuss and start lifting weights.
You need a good cardio ALSO! Especially when you're getting bigger, if you're getting bigger, so squeeze in a cardio day into your workout schedule.
Choosing a program is important, so don't go choosing a bodybuilding program if you're going to do MMA, or ANY kind of fighting.
You need a strongmans program that will make you strong, not just buff with little strength and cardio.
I got a BB program and ever since i looked at it i scrapped it.
You don't do 30reps with light weights, you do FIVE reps with HEAVY weights to get strong and squat, bench and deadlifts are the BASICS of strength.
Those are everything you need and i might just as well tell you now!!!:
Do five reps on five sets on this program.(on each of the Xcercises)
I got this by my coach and yours would probably get the same answer from yours if he is good.
    Squat)
    Bench)
    Dead)
Pull-ups/chins bodyweight/weighted) Here you can choose whetever you want weights, but usually it's done with the normal MMA cardio we do, bodyweight.
If you have it on your MMA schedule, then don't bother gymming it.

  • Well, If your going to be competing in mma, it is good to do both. You have to remember that in mma there are many styles in your arsenal. These days mma has evolved so fast that BJJ is kind of like a backdoor for weak people. I train in muay thai, BJJ, and MMA. I am not strong at all and it seems that If I get into trouble I shoot and control my opponent on the groung using his strength. Thats why you see so many of these small guys coming in and dominating people. Overall, you need to eat healthy things, cardio, and strenght. In my opinion cardio is your main concern. What good is your strength when you can hardly stand in the 2nd and third round?

  • well weight lifting is kinda the same, u can continue to weight lift, just dont forget ur running and to work out ur legs alot, but since ur only 5'9 and seem to be a highschool kid or sometin, u might have lost like 2 inches. but ur body will still grind out a few more inches before ur done growing.

I mean if u just wanna be really strong and fast, keep weightlifting and do alot of reps. Or else u have no endurance. But if u wanna grow some more, and have that agility, cutting corners, jumping, or w.e and running capability-condition. So it depends, if ur football weight lift, if ur like lacross or tennis, track, basketball, condition, and they dont weight lift much, they lift low weights but do it like 50 reps.
