What equipment do i need?

  • i am a vocalist and i am getting a rock band together (alt/pop punk/screamo) and i just want to know what equipment i will need personally. obviously a mic but what confuses me is if i need an amp..or a PA system..or if theres something totally different then what. and also..what wires and stuff would we need to hook up to the house equipment at a music hall when the time comes. any help would be awesome..thanks.

  • You want a PA system with enough power to stay on top of the bass and drums. Also, extra channels are good. I played a show once where my guitarist's amp crapped out on him. He was able to plug straight into the PA from his distorion pedal, and we didn't have to cancel the show.

  • if you sing and know the poular songs of the genre you dont buy anything ,,go to the music stores ,,,and the union,,, and post cards onthe walls,, or boards about your styles and range,,, then wait for a call ,,,the bands most working bands have all the equipment,,, i played lead and sang and we had a 16 channel pa used and two voice of the theatre stacks with 15inch horns,, and two monitor amps as slave ,,facing us and two light towers on a board that was home made with the snakes or cables coming down front to the mixers and the roadies,, we ,,,me and the drummer ,,,who had straight jobs owned all the equipment ,,except intruments and personal amps and effects,, every thing was used from other bands that moved up to better stuff,,, as the bullitin boards ,,,and now samash on line will be able to get you ,,,but starting a new working band you can rent p-a's at music stores,, or use several boards and link them ,,to save money and buy a bunch of cheap ball mics in ash ,,, we were lucky at that time as a lot of groups failed

  • A Basic Sound system is composed of the source, a mic, a sound board, a amp, and a speaker. From there thing get more crazy.

As a new group I would worry just about the vocals, and figure out a good level on the amps. Choice something like the old stand by SM-58 from sure for vocals. The cable that connects the mic to the sound board is called XLR. Now truth be known they make combined mixers and amps that would be great for small bars and clubs. Now if it makes it cheaper if you get a decent amp you can run both your left and right off the one amp, most live bands do not use a stereo mix.

I would suggest the you go to you local music store like Sam Ash or etc and listen and try out the brands and models before you buy then you can shop around for the best price.

  • Search the Internet with: home studio equipment... I have seen some of perfect advices by sound engineers, but I can't remember that site name, but I hope it will help you. By this way you will save more money and you will invest in good equipments. Ask the sound engineers.
