What do you think about working in North Jersey/NYC?

  • I currently live and grew up about 1 1/2 hrs (by car) and about 2 hrs (by train) away from NYC. In May 2009, I will be graduating with a Master of Science. My dilemma is weather I should try to find work and move to the North Jersey/NYC area or try to find work and move to another city/metro area. I have been looking at a couple other cities in the Eastern Time Zone.

You know the saying, "If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere." Should I really care?

  • It's cool. Lots of jobs in the restaurant and hotel industry as people have to eat and stay somewhere on a visit. ApartmentGuide.com, which I discovered while crocery shopping, has some great tips on Apartment hunting in NY and NJ.

  • You may not get the pay you are looking for in NJ vs. in NYC. I tell you this from experience because I am a Native New Yorker who recently moved to Northern, NJ and commute to work everyday.

  • Working in NYC is fun. If you can get a job in NYC its great but keep in mind the expenses are more around NYC or even around north jersey is expensive, unless you can stay with roommates and share the costs. Or you can try somewhere in Long Island , its a bit cheaper living there.
