I am Having Trouble Selling My Horse!!!!!?

  • Hi guys, Thanks for looking. I am having trouble selling my horse! I have advertised her everywhere, but am just not getting any interest. Here is her ad:
    http://horsetopia.horse-for-sale.org/cla...
And no, I cannot change my price so don't even bother telling me to change it.

  • I think we all addressed this in several other questions. You asked about selling her and getting an Andalusian arab cross. I told you then why she wont sell.

She's out of shape, old and in your own words "not for beginners". She's certainly not worth what you're asking. She would sell if you price her around $1500. She needs to be worked, and you need to re-write your ad to play up her good attributes and take new photos of her when she's clean, trimmed, and looking fit. You need confo shots and photos of her moving. You MIGHT be able to squeeze 2k outta her if you get her in shape and train her some more.

Also- I would like to point out that you have asked this or similar questions in "What do you think of this horse?" "How much is my horse worth?" and "would you buy this horse?". Our answers are based in fact and aren't going to change overnight. Stop asking hoping for someone to tell you that she's worth $5500 and is horse of the month.

  • The market is really funky right now and as I'm sure you already know price is going to be an issue. So with that in mind you are going to have to change things to target those with money if you can't lower the price.

I would change the pictures for starters. Do you have any good ones of her doing the things you say she can do? How about show pictures? Also, there is no pedigree there. Don't take this wrong, but there is nothing on the ad to make me think she is worth the price. There are several good horses out there for less saying the same thing. So again I think presentation is your big issue. No back yard pictures, you want her groomed to the hilt, properly set up or properly working, be aware of what's in the back ground too.

I'm guessing she's probably a fairly well bred gal with a lot of training, but if you don't know how to talk the talk and walk the walk you won't get the same price someone else with a name and more experience might.

Please don't take this wrong, just trying to be staright forward and honest.

  • she'd sell in a heartbeat if you lowered her price a couple grand...But nobody is going to pay that kind of money for a horse to just plod around on when they can get the same thing for $1,500 or less now a days. Not trying to be mean...but you asked.

  • much better now that youve changed it =]

  • if people aren't going for her at that site maybe try another one? or post sale adds at you're local tack store
or put an add in the news paper- try putting adds in more areas then just one site! she looks and sounds like a great horse so if you spread out the adds im sure people will go for her! good luck!

  • ok, i would rewrite your ad and change your pictures. you do not have any good pictures of her conformation. you need pics of her body and legs, front, back and sides. also you say she is not suitable for young children, but you have a very small child on her in the picture? if you have any pictures of her competing or doing any of the things she is suitable to do, then put a pic of that. keep your ad short and simple. there is a lot of extra info in there that is not needed. also remember, with the economy being the way it is not as many people are buying horses and can afford them. she also may not be worth what you think she is.

  • You are having a problem because she is overpriced. I am not telling you to change the price, I am telling you why she won't sell.

She is older, and although well broke, is only ok on conformation and doesn't even do flying lead changes.

I would not pay more than $2,500 for your horse.

    This is a $5,000 horse:

    And this:

    http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php...

    And this:

    http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php...
(sorry, no pic on Mickey, but this listing is at my barn on the bulletin board with a pic, he is just as nice as the first two and if I had the money I would snap him right up, he is beautiful!!)

Now there are plenty more, but look what I can find in your price range within 15 miles of my house, and this is only looking for about 5 minutes and hitting one website.

These horses blow yours away and make her look like a sorry nag. I am not trying to be nasty, I am just trying to make a point.

I am sorry, you may not like it, but she is overpriced.

  • People are annoying me saying she is OLD...SHE ISNT OLD!! My horse is 18 and is still jumping 2'6 2'9 and going cross country. There is nothing wrong with her age. It is a perfect age. She does look a little plump..but not too bad.

  • do you have it on other web sites like dreamhorse. your ad is good.people just don't have the money right now.

  • My first answer would be to get a good photographer (hire a nice amateur who has never done the job before and you'll get the pictures cheap) out to photograph your horse. You have some ok photographs, but not as good as they could be. Trust me, horses sell really well when they have a great photographer to make them look twice as beautiful as they actually are.

And I know that you don't want to lower the price but you have to face it, the horse market sucks at the moment. I would say about $2,500 might sell her quickly.

  • Websites are creatures of evil. Try newspaper advertising or hanging flyers at a show, feed, or tack shop. Change the pictures, more of her rather that of the tack. If you groom her really well, it will show. I suggest pulling the mane and trimming the tail to a nice, straight end. She is overweight, or appears to be so from these pictures. Exercise her more, or explain why she is that round. Has she been working lately, or just leading little kids? For the video, try having a taller rider put her through every pace, which will make her look smaller and more athletic, which is good in this case. Generally, english horses tend to be more valuable, try taking pictures of her jumping. If you are not doing this with an English saddle, please go outside and apologize to your horse. Try making her look like a 5000 dollar horse rather than a kid's pet. Cute horse, btw.

  • I know you seem set on selling her for 5500..but the fact is, it's not going to happen. You either need to lower her price or get over the fact that you're not going to sell her. And I can't stop laughing at that picture "such a muscular girl!". She's not muscular, she's fat. Fat, fat, fat.

  • i would not pay over 5k for a 12 year old if it was younger i would but the horses best years are 8-12

EDIT: And she looks over weight which could lead to serious problems (foundering)

  • The reason why she isn't selling is because she's over priced. If you want her to sell, she would be around $3,000. If you want your $5,500, she needs some work. First, she isn't beginner safe, which brings down her price. That's one of the things that you can't really work with. Second, she doesn't do flying lead changes. Flying lead changes can add another $500 - $1,000 on your horse. For your mare, I think that would make her worth $3,700. It will help to work on jumping too. Having her jump 2' courses can increase her value by another $500. That's $4,000 right there. The higher she jumps, the more she's worth. If she's jumping 3' courses (as opposed to 2'), she can be worth $4,500. The biggest price increase would be to show her. If your mare did flying changes and jumped 3' courses, she might be worth $4,500. If your mare did flying changes, jumps 3' courses, and has won some jumping classes (even 2' or 2'6"), she will be worth the $5,500. For her to sell, you need to either drop her price or get some more training. Good luck selling her!

  • i dont see any problesm, u have explained in detail about her
    she should be selling

i dont see any problem with the price i think that that is reasonable

hopw someone buys her off you

  • I just dont know why any body in their right mind would pay 5,500 for your mare..i mean she is nice, but she definitely isnt worth that...so have fun keeping her for the next 10 years until she finally sells ...anyways maybe a few action shots of her doing some of the things you mention she can do would be a good idea?? I mean you say she can do barrels, WP, poles etc but I dont see any pictures of her in action or at shows or anything...so all people have to go on is your word...also you have no picture of her squared up, and her whole body in the picture so you cant see what her conformation is like....and the pictures are in crappy lighting and cut off her legs and stuff...go out and take decent pictures of her, bring her in the barn, groom her up, get her all pretty, and square and take some nice shots of her...and if you have pictures of her at a show put those on too....The picture with the kid is cute and all...but I really wouldnt care if the kid can sit on her when shes standing if you are saying shes not for beginners, there is no point in putting that picture up there because the kid obviously cant ride alone...so take it off...also no need for captions like "her with a kid..she did SO well" its cheesy and a little ridiculous if you want $5,500 for her...be professional...no backyard person who wants a trail horse will pay $5,500, so get rid of the crap. If I'm a buyer and I want a barrel horse or a EP or a WP horse, I dont want to pay $5,500 for a horse that is clearly overweight right??

SO get her in shape, get some action shots and conformation shots up of her and re-write your ad..its way too wordy...you want it quick and to the point...list her good qualities in point form, list her breeding, accomplishments and disciplines that she can be ridden in...list what she does (ie trailers, clips etc) and your done.

EDIT: Oh and I forgot the crappy video of her in "action" ...really...its just SAD...she isnt jumping or she cant jump..and your riding or who ever is riding her doesnt seem to be that great either, which makes it look like your a spoiled little brat who wants an expensive english jumping pony to make you look better cuz you cant ride and so you have to sell your fat backyard horsie so you can get the new one...oh wait...isnt that whats happening here??

  • She is a nice looking mare that would sell fast for $1000.00 maybe. Its not your horse it the market. Sorry for your troubles. I understand its hard right now:(

  • if she's ever competed, try finding those results. and take some pics of all the different disciplines she's capable of. really try to show off her training. no one is gonna pay that much for a horse that can only carry young kids, even if it's for disabled children. also, try to make her look beautiful. she's already adorable, make her coat shine! i'm sure if you did that, she'd look like a great little show horse. good luck!

  • shes overpriced. georgous, but i wouldnt pay that.
