Their basic argument is that everyone is out for themselves and they should expect no hand outs and that socialism is evil. Well the way I look at it, as someone who has lived in europe with the democratic socialistic system is that it's better for everyone instead of the select few. Health care is a right, and you should not worry about weather you can afford treatment, but if the treatment will help you or not. Higher education should be free or inexpensive as well because the more education people are the more advanced the country is. The justice system should focus on rehabilitation of its citizens, not putting them to death or locking them behind bars for life. Basically, I believe in a country that helps all of its people, and thus a bigger government is needed to accomplish that. The everyone for yourself attitude is just selfish, no one needs to have $100 million dollars in their bank account, and have a thousand people be poor because of it. *gasp* omg im going to be labeled as a communist now!Pretty much.I think there are good and bad points for both sides myself. That is why I am an Independent and vote for the person, not the party. The Conservative Republican's believe in hard work and not living on government handouts and a free ride. Whereas the Democrats want everyone to have a more liberalized form of government. I feel those who want to work should have a job that pays a decent wage and have those opportunities to get a trade or higher education. The one thing I've never cared about the Republican government is their lack of compassion for those who can't work including the Senior Citizens who live in cars because they can't afford apartments, Disabled citizens who've worked hard who live on such small meager incomes they barely have enough food to get by on, and children when they take away government commodities for poor families and cut foodstamps. People make fun of those on welfare but it's very few American's who actually can get welfare these days. About 2% of tax dollars are used for welfare, and about 50% of tax dollars are used for national defense and war. We've needed a change for sometime with big corporations getting the big tax breaks. We have a national deficit of over a trillion dollars due to the War in Iraq and Afghanistan and people buying on credit and living on credit and living beyond their means. This is why the Stock Market crashed in 1929. This is why it crashed in 2008. You can't expect to live on credit without something about to happen people! And you can't pay off debts with credit cards and keeping fighting other people's wars without going bankrupt yourself! This is what George W Bush has done to our country and economy. And I am sure he and alot of other rich Republican's haven't lost a penny while thousands upon thousands of hard-working American's are losing homes and jobs all across the country. Selfish? You bet your dollar they've been selfish to the detriment of those American's who have to sweat for every dollar they make. actually republicans give much more to charity than liberals. Check out Obamas and Bidens tax returns. It is a lot more selfish to want to take what doesn't belong to you than to want to keep what is yours. In a word, yes.I think that people that identify themselves as "liberals" are pretty selfish people. No, we're not selfish. Just smarter and un-brain damaged like the libtards. Oh, and we don't like killing babies either. In the beginning of the 20th century, the rich were limited by how much they could have by regulating how much businesses they could acquire, because of the threat they represented to the country as a whole. Then that was thrown out by conservatives who got in control of our govt.
You sound like a liberal who doesn't understand conservatives. Conservatives basically think that people are bad and need strict rules and discipline to keep society in order. Liberals think like you do, that people are basically good and that all people need is to be helped if they need it to bring cooperation and intelligence into society in order to make a happy and peaceful country.
But our conservative govt doesn't want it's citizens to be able to think for themselves and to be healthy and sane. Because conservatives think that we are essentially evil, we need to be oppressed and dumbed down and kept from interfering with the workings of our country. That is the reason they hate democracy and are trying to get rid of it and the govt that it represents, namely America.shellfishConservative Americans are the most generous givers in the world. Fact. But they do not like to have the money taken from them and the decisions made for them where that charity will go. You need a beginners class in economics. What you wrote makes no sense except to a theoretical socialistI'll agree with you to a small level.
(1) Health care is important and should be available to all.
(2) Higher education is important, but not all are capable. "the more education people?" Nice grammar there.
(3) Rehabilitation is not always achievable. Some people are just plain evil. Life imprisonment is just a drain on the economy.
People should be allowed to accumulate what their skills in life enable them to accumulate. Who are you to decide the "too much" level for anyone else? What makes you so educated that you can assume such a role? A system that allows success for people willing and able to achieve it does not "take it away" from others. The vast majority of cases are those where people rob themselves of opportunity.
The Warlock
Yep. Their philosophy is basically "me me me". NOT "country first", as they like to think. Oh, and Levon the Man: ppl with conservative values were the ones who SUPPORTED slavery...Why are you confusing republicans not thinking the Government should be the primary source of charity,
With republicans not wanting charity ?
Conservatives give on average 30% more to charity than liberals do.
So you tell me, who's more selfish ?
Well the last time we had a democratic president and a democratic Congress,
They cut federal education funding 16% and cut Pell grant funding.
While republican presidents have always supported increased educational funding.
Reagan - Education funding increased 57%
Bush Sr - Education funding increased 45%
Clinton - Education funding increased 31%
Bush - Education funding increased 61%
This clearly shows republicans fund education more than democrats do.
So maybe you need to do some more research. No, but you don't need to be worrying yourself about it anyway. You've got a complete Liberal Dictatorship starting in January, so why are you wound up?I guess you need to go back to the utopian society of Europe then. The idea that you want to put a ceiling on what people earn is pretty ridiculous. What do you have against the wealthy having money, other than you don't. Envy, jealousy? Something to strive for rather than remaining at whatever level you are presently? Your opinion is no one needs $100 million....so what is the ceiling you want to put on earnings? Bill Gates invented something, yet you don't think he should have all the money for coming up with the idea? Why would you say the system is flawed. I would say, people are flawed if they don't think they need an education to suceed. People are flawed if they think they don't have to work for money. There are too many people proving the system works. Some people don't like the rules of the game, and they don't play. They lose. Then they go to the government for help. Of course, we have the conmen who make up their own rules too. They either win, lose or draw.
l lived in Europe also, and saw they were about 20 - 30 years behind us. I was thrilled to get back to the USA. I thought of it as a trip back in time.
Basically, our government does help people. Do people help themselves? I also believe the justice system has lots of ways for the incarcerated people to help themselves, how many do it? How many earn their GED's or learn a trade so they don't have to go back to jail if they are so lucky to get out. I believe there is lots of emphasis put on rehabilitation of certain criminals. I visited a museum in Huntsville TX once many years ago, and it showed that we spent $14,000 a month ...not a year...a month for each prisoner in that prison. That certainly opened my eyes. I wonder what it is now? We spend more on the care and upkeep of prisoners than most people make in a couple years. I can't remember how they came up with the cost, but I do remember writing to my congressman about it.
So I believe those making money aren't selfish...and that word came up when Obama said it. Don't hold on to it to describe the wealthy. He was only using it to get a rise out of his audience. The wealthy do great things for our county and for others. If you want to look at selfish, check Obama's tax records...not to much given to charity. Then note he didn't even help his family in Africa. (but he plans to send lots of USA money to Africa...he promised them). He doesn't spend his own, but is very willing to spend others. I think that is the ultimate of Selfish. Check out Joe Biden's charity giving also...pretty selfish to me!
Look around your community and see whose names are on hospital wings, on schools, on university buildings. Most building on university campuses are called by the name of the person that donated the money for that building to be built. Look at museums, parks, and notice who donated the money to build them or care for them. Those are wealthy people that did that! Does that look like selfish to you? Actually no. Studies show that Conservatives give more to charity than Liberals.
We just don't like to keep doing things that have been proven not to work.I don't care how much or little someone makes.
What you make should be yours and yours alone to do with how you please as long it doens't hurt someone else.Hard work, diligence, and living within your means will keep your belly full and a roof over your head. Never forget that! All non believers in the Messiah are selfish. Only followers of him are pure.If health care is a right and the government is the entity that is supposed to help us, then how did we ever survive in this country from 1600's to the 20th century?
Where was the government health care when the west was settled?
When the early settlers came to the Mississippi River, did they just sit down and wait for the government to build them a bridge?
Just how many doctors were provided, free of charge, on the Mayflower?
Things were tough and people were required to make smart decisions and to work things out, not sit back and wait for the government to bail them out of their last stupid mistake.
If I want to do better for myself next year, I can take stock of where I am at, what I am doing, and make a plan to do just that. I don't have to wait to see what some politician thinks I should get more of next year. Sure, I may not get all that I want, things change and happen and I may not do as well. However, I know that if I keep trying, I will be successful. The emotional victory in overcoming the obstacles is what makes us a great country and prepares us for the next challenge when it comes. Too much dependence on the federal government makes us fat and lazy.what else?SOCIALISM IS JUST A SNEAKIER FORM OF SLAVERY! If it doesn't scare you, you have a problem.
Most men are not willing to pay the price of Freedom.
They only desire a Just Master.Whoever thinks that all conservatives are rich has never met me. We are not against giving, just against being told how and when to do so. If a person earns the money then they are entitled to it. We are opposed to the government demanding something that really is a matter of personal choice. What's wrong with being selfish?
I'd rather be an independent selfish person, than some interdependent sheep.Conservatives do believe in helping their fellow man. They just prefer to do it through private channels, rather than through government run programs. It's their belief that the government should not be in the charity business, that should be handled by the citizens. Private charities are much more efficient at getting help to those who need it. Unfortunately, America (the Democratic Republic) was founded as a country of "self made men". Meaning: You are on your own to succeed or fail. (without govt. help OR INTERFERENCE)
If we become a socialist state, then the Revolution was for naught.
All the power goes back to the king (aka the President).Conservatives aren't necessarily selfish. This country was built on self-preservation and the pioneering spirit - on one's ability to take care of oneself without being a burden on anyone else.
That said, I'm with you on universal health care, not because I think it's a right, I just think it's common sense. On the other hand, if you start saying that by law I must see a doctor every year, then I have a problem with that - just as I have a problem with seat-belt laws today.
It's one thing to make services available, it's another to make them mandatory. The American Left-wing tends to want to tell people how to live and take care of themselves whether we like it or not.
We've had Right-wing extremism for years and I'm glad it FINALLY looks like that's coming to an end. But I sure as HELL don't want to see that replaced with Left-wing extremism. They're trying to sell the American dream but to only the top 1% who can afford it.THEY CANNOT SEE ANY REASON FOR HELPING A LAZY PERSONI'm sorry, but I don't have nor want millions of dollars. I just want the government to stay out of my law abiding life, and let me do as well as I can. Every conservative I know gives time, money and resources to help the poor. We don't need the government to do it for us. Aren't all the Hollywood yuks who creamed about Obama very liberal? Sorry, your argument is flawed. Try to retool and figure out what really is conservatism. #If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
