Version 2.5 (370) and Internet Explorer Problem

  • Hi all,

First off, IE isn't my primary browser so while the following problem is a pain, it isn't life threatening.

After reading through a few of the forum posts on issues with the new version I decided to opt for a clean install of 2.5 (registry entries and everything). So far I've not come across any major issues with normal day to day use - Firefox and Thunderbird run smooth, my local development server runs fine too.

However, Internet Explorer runs like an old dog for want of a better phrase. On initial startup, it takes a good 2 minutes to load my homepage (bbc.co.uk) and another 2 minutes to get to Windows Update which is my main use for IE.

Having a look at the 'blocked' log - I'll get the following:

iexplorer.exe OUT REFUSED UDP - localhost (port varies) Trusted Zone

I've turned of component control for each of IE's rules to see if this made any difference, unfortunatley it hasn't. Does someone have an idea what's happening?

    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

  • Are you starting IE directly or via Firefox? (specifically with the "View with IE" extension). If the problem persists however IE is launched then I would suggest deleting IE's entry in Options/Application and recreating its ruleset from scratch.

  • I had the same problem too. IE started to work ok (same speed as other browsers) only after I setted the Ignore Component Control for "Allow Loopback" global rule.

  • Thanks for the reply Paranoid2000 - I was working on it again last night and it seems to be working OK, when I originally setup the global rules I'd forgotton to add a DHCP broadcast rule (I'm behind a router). This seems to have solved IE's slowness.
