Sporadic DNS mailfunction

  • Hello Outpost fans

sometimes Outpost beats the DNS-function and I cannot reach any domain in www.

When this happens i have to do as follows:
    activate DNS-Cache-function from Cache-Plugin
    wait a minute
    deactivate DNS-Cache-function from Cache-Plugin
    wait a minute

Most times I can ping the domain as it is usually after this procedure.
Sometimes the above procedure does not help and I have to restart XP. Then it works fine.

I'm using german Outpost 2.0.235.3116 (called PC Firealarm).
Automatic Update doesn't find a Patch.
    DNS-Cache-Plugin is deactivated.

    Does anybody know this problem?
Is it correct, that "automatic update search" does not find anything?

    hope you can help
    ciao

  • OP_Tester,

Please check your Outpost Blocked and Attack Detection logs for any DNS related entries. It is possible for Outpost to mistake a slow response from a DNS server as a separate incoming connection and block it - in this case, try removing the direction from the DNS UDP rule (if you know your DNS server address, add it as the remote address to tighten up this rule also - more suggestions on securing DNS can be found in 1).

The current public release of Outpost (which should appear at the top right of the forum page) is 2.1.303.xxxx (314). If your licence does not allow you to update to this, you may be well-advised to wait until Outpost 2.5 is released (currently in beta) before renewing it.
