Which is the Amtrak station in San Francisco closer to the San Francisco Int' Airport?

  • Hi everybody

I'm going to South Lake Tahoe (CA) by train from San Francisco, but I don't know where the closet Amtrak station is, and how to get there from the San Francisco International Airport.

    HELP ME, PLSSSSSSSSS!!!

  • There is no Amtrak station in San Francisco, just a bus from Emeryville.

You can take the BART train from SFO to Richmond, changing at the Oakland City Center. The BART Richmond station is adjacent to the Amtrak station. However, there's no Amtrak station in S. Lake Tahoe, either, just one bus a day from Sacramento. The bus leaves at 10:00 AM, which means you'd have to take the train which leaves Richmond at 8:07 AM, which means you'd have to leave SFO at 6:39 AM. Unless you're arriving at the crack of dawn, I'd suggest finding another route.

Honestly, if you're old enough to rent a car, that's probably the least painful way to get there.

  • Amtrak trains don't actually go to San Francisco, but buses take people from Oakland and Emeryville to several San Francisco locations. But none of them are near the airport, which is also not in San Francisco. I'd suggest taking BART from from airport to pick up the Amtrak Capitol Corridor train at either Richmond or Oakland (Coliseum.) But then you won't be on the train very long, only to Sacramento. Then a bus to Tahoe.

  • There is a BART station at the airport itself. You can take BART from the airport, get off at Oakland (Jack London Square) and then take Amtrak from there.
