Q: can you join the marines if you have a baby?

Last year i was supposed to join the marines but two days before my ship out date found out i was pregnant so i couldnt go. I'm still interested in joining so i want to know ... Can i still join if i have a daughter? can not be a single parent sorry
  • This would be a better question for a recruiter. But yes as far as I know you can join. Be sure to understand though that your first year will be full of schools and training that may or may not allow you to see your dependent on a regular basis.
  • Have you thought about how this would affect your daughter?
  • I am a recruiter for the US Army / Army Reserves. As a single parent you can only join the Army reserves, If you are married and then yeah, you can join back up with the Marines, but you have to wait as least 6 months after the birth of your child.
  • yes you should be able tooo!
  • not as a single parent. If Married, depends on how many total dependents you have.

you may NOT give up custody just to enlist..In fact the Marines make you wait a YEAR after giving up custody before you can enlist to Prove that you didn't give up custody just to enlist. you may NOT Get custody back at all during the first term of enlistment either.
