Is it allowed for middle east citizens to visit israel?

The borders between Israel and Jordon and Egypt are open. I know because I have crossed them, also Turkey is open.
There are many Jewish, Christian and Muslim citizens of Israel, many of whom live peaceful and prosperous lives. This is more than can be said for the surrounding countries.

Is "middle east" a new country I haven't heard about?
